Tampa Bay Lightning launch 2nd iteration of annual esports tournament
# OF QUALIFIERS
The ‘Bolts Chel Challenge’ is set to return for the 2nd straight year for another round.
This time, the Lightning have decided to run a standalone tournament, with further investment in their live final event. The four finalists will get to play for $5,000 at the local esports venue ‘The Fortress’ at Full Sail University.
The Bolts Chel Challenge is also open to players from North America and Europe (some exclusions apply), which makes it the first time we’ll be able to see international competition during the NHL 20 esports season.
Players will be able to qualify for the final by playing through online qualifiers hosted by Smash.gg. Registration for online qualifiers closes on January 17, 2020. Head over to the tournament site using the button below to register.
The online portion of the tournament will feature a Best-of-1 double-elimination bracket that will be played out January to determine the four finalists. The finals will be played in a Best-of-Three bracket, and all matches will be played on PS4.
The Grand Finals will be played live in Orlando, Florida at The Fortress at Full Sail University and will be live-streamed on Twitch on the Tampa Bay Lightning’s channel.
The 2020 Bolts Chel Challenge consists of a single online qualifier, followed by a 4-person LAN final.
The online qualifier will be hosted by Smash.gg and will be a Best-of-1 double-elimination bracket. The Top 4 players from the qualifiers will earn a spot in the finals and travel to Florida to compete against each other in a Best-of-3 finals bracket.
