The Minnesota Wild became the second team this week that announced the launch of their next NHL esports tournament.

In a format very similar to last year’s event, the NHL 20 Wild Gaming Tournament will consist of two online qualifiers and a live LAN final. The Top 2 players from each qualifier will earn a trip to Minnesota where they will play for their share of the $5,000 prize pool in front of a live audience (and on Twitch) in the rotunda of the Mall of America.

Also mirroring last year’s event, the team noted in their news release that special guests, including Minnesota Wild players, will be in attendance. Let’s just hope that doesn’t result in another painfully drawn-out and awkward Pro-Am segment before the final…

Players will be able to qualify for the final by playing through online qualifiers hosted by Smash.gg. Registration for online qualifiers opens on December 2, 2019.

The online portion of the tournament will feature a Best-of-1 double-elimination bracket that will be played out over two consecutive days in December to determine the four finalists. The finals will be played in a Best-of-Three series, and all matches will be played on PS4 only.

The Grand Finals will be played live in St. Paul, Minnesota at the Mall of America and will be live-streamed on Twitch on the Minnesota Wild’s channel.
